Ingredients
  • one banana (can be frozen or fresh)
  • 2 cups mango chunks (it’s about 30 chunks)
  • 6 oz orange juice (freshly squeezed or not)
  • 6 oz water
  • one teaspoon maca powder (optional; this is the superfood)
  • one tablespoon chia seeds (optional; if you add the chia seeds, make sure you consume the smoothie after blending because otherwise the chia grows like the chia pet and will make the smoothie a bit like pudding)
  • spinach (as much as you can fit in your blender – I used about ⅓ pound or 4 huge handfuls)

Instructions
  1. Blend until you reach your desired consistency

This recipe makes about 28-32oz of smoothie and I used a Blendtec blender to whip it up. I used organic spinach, organic orange juice, organic banana — the mango chunks were conventional.

Thanks Allen – i have been doing a green smoothie for weight loss lately and i think it works but i want to add more greens like spinach – i think i am not adding enough – any ideas on how much spinach to add to help with weight loss?

Hi Mary – thanks for commenting – I started with very little spinach because the blender I had was just a one-serving blender. Now that I have a big blendtec, I put in a lot – probably 5 huge handfuls – my suggestion is that for a green smoothie for weight loss – add as much greens as you can jam into the blender – trust me, the spinach you won’t taste at all!

      Keep it going! :)

Thanks for the recipe Allen. Like you I have found that the green smoothies are excellent for weight loss. I currently do one a day for lunch but like your idea of doing it for breakfast.

Hi Tairy – yes, you can freeze it although you might want to just put it into the fridge. I used to make my smoothies the night before. I would definitely drink it the next day.

Your posts are inspiring. I have a problem with losing weight. Nothing I try seems to work. I am going to try this recipe. I weigh 160lbs and would like to be at a healthy 125lbs.

What do you have for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner? If you don’t mind me asking.

Hi Sarah – thanks :) Welcome – you should definitely signup for my smoothie newsletter – I am sure green smoothies will help you, the other key is a positive attitude I have found. For lunch I generally have a salad of some sort and then for dinner I have grilled chicken with sweet potato and/or some mixed veggies. I then do a green juice at night. But let me say, I started with just a smoothie in the morning and I lost a ton of weight. Hope that helps – let me know if you have more questions.
