Whole Foods Austin Salad Bar Review

As I mentioned last week, my goal is to try one new restaurant or eatery each week as I expand my food palette. Last week I tried Blenders and Bowls for my first “acai bowl”. This week I headed to the Whole Foods in downtown Austin. Did you know that Whole Foods is based here in Austin?

Before you continue, check out my post from the first time I tried the salad bar. I can’t believe how far I’ve come since January! And yet I am just at the beginning stage which means even more exciting things to come!

There really isn’t a ton to say about the salad bar. Whole Foods stocks the salad bar with about 35 different vegetables and about 25 different fruits. Everything looks (and tasted) very fresh and always appetizing looking. They have all of the standard items – the salad bar also includes edamame which I had not seen before on a salad bar.

The Whole Foods salad bar is $7.99/pound – my bill for what’s in the above image came out to just over $6. Just grab a container, head to the bar, pick out whatever you would like and then add a dressing if you desire (I go plain and dry).

I think next time I would go a bit lighter on the spinach since I get a lot of that in the daily green smoothie and go heavier on the cucumber, zucchini, onion, etc.

WF is also re-doing their grill in the store and making it into a healthy eatery. I learned today that they plan to open next month – should be awesome!

The main Austin Lamar store has about 30 tables and if you go at lunchtime, there might be a wait for a table. The seating area is at the front of the store so it’s easy to get in and out. Tip: if you plan to visit the store, don’t fight for a spot on the outside lot, just go directly underground – there are always spots and it’s easy to get in and out.
