Conscious Box Review

Conscious Box ReviewShort version: Conscious Box offers a monthly subscription box of healthy food and fitness goodies. Here is my review of the Conscious Box.

Back when I ran a tech blog, I reviewed a bunch of the “monthly box of items” services. This was before I decided to get healthy. I was pleasantly surprised to see that a company is offering a box of sample items in the healthy and sustainable products arena. That company is Conscious Box.

I won a free month of the Conscious Box via the Raw Food Rehab group (thanks Penni!) on Facebook. I was so excited to learn that I won and that I would be receiving a box of goodies to try. I do a pretty good job today of trying some new things each month but can certainly do better in this area.

For $20 a month (including shipping), Conscious Box sends you a box with samples of various healthy products. This month they also launched a Vegan Box and a Gluten Free Box. Assuming the service works like the other monthly subscription services, Conscious Box generates revenue from your subscription charges plus a fee from the companies that want their products in the box. The companies that participate are hoping that you will trial their product and then want to buy a full size version.

Here is a photo of all of the products – you can view a bigger version on my Flickr account.

Here are the products that were in my box – the January 2013 box:

  • a hand towel from People Towels – organic cotton and eco-friendly dyes
  • sample pack of Peeled Snacks – Apple Clusters Cinnamon Crunch – gluten free
  • Hail Merry choco macaroons – vegan, raw oils
  • Happy Squeeze – Caramel Apple Treat – 1 pouch
  • Maakoa Koopuwa – some drink made up of acai and other superfruits – 1 pouch
  • Bodhichitta Botanicals – Sacred Temple Lotion
  • Nutiva Organic Hemp Seeds – can’t wait to try this in my smoothie!
  • Dr. Singha’s Mustard Bath – no idea wtf this is :) looks like something you use in the bath
  • Dale’s Raw Protein Bar – the Chocolate Almond Coconut with Goji Berries – 1 bar – feels like a soft bar
  • Amazing Grass – Kidz Superfood Wild Berry Flavor – I love Amazing Grass – can’t wait to try this one in my smoothie – I am a kid at heart :)
  • Simply Straws – a sample glass straw – wish this was a longer length – this one won’t work for my smoothies
  • bunch of coupons and postcards about each product

I have gotten a box 2 months now Allen! I love it because it is something fun to look forward to each month – not a stupid credit card bill or some other junk mail but some new goods to help me try to get in shape.

Hey Christen – I can send you the straw – it’s not in the wrapper as I used it for some photos – but happy to send to you. It’s very short – maybe 5 inches – email me your addy and i will send it if you want it.

Hi Julie – I think it is definitely a “got extra cash laying around” type thing. When I used to do tech blogging, I wrote about a lot of these services. I think the idea is that you want the potential of trying something new to the market, new to you, you like getting something other than a bill in the mail, something positive to get, etc. When you say it as $240/yr it certainly sounds like a lot more than $20 a month :) It’s not something I plan to buy to be honest as I try to eat fruit and veg more than anything.
