That’s A Lotta Strawberries!

For my daily smoothies, I’ve been rotating with either strawberries or another fruit as the lead ingredient. I’ve been doing strawberry every other day followed by either peach, mango or pineapple on the other days. Most of the frozen strawberries I’ve purchased at Whole Foods. I’ve always purchased either the 10oz organic or the 16oz non-organic frozen strawberries. Today I super-sized it and went for a whopping FIVE POUND BAG! Check out the picture below of a massive bag of frozen strawberries.

From a price standpoint, this bag was the cheapest I’ve found to-date. Now I know ya’all will grill me because it isn’t organic but I do the best I can. I did buy some organic apples and organic roma tomatoes today and a hot house cucumber. So far I can’t find any large bags of organic frozen strawberries only 10oz bags and I go through those in two smoothies. From a pricing standpoint, this is how the pricing works out in my area:

  • This 5 pound bag – $0.10/ounce ($8.33/5 pound bag)
  • Whole Foods non-organic 1 pound bag – $0.16/ounce ($13.45/5 pounds)
  • Whole Foods organic 10oz bag – $0.30/ounce ($23.92/5 pounds)
  • Grocery store organic 10oz bag – $0.27/ounce ($22.08/5pounds)

It’s amazing how good I feel when I buy the fruits and veggies – looking back at my life I don’t think I ever felt good when I buy a cupcake or fast food.
