Superfoods Smorgasbord

Superfoods

Last month Linda gave me some samples of a variety of Superfoods. I’ve been adding them to my smoothies since then. I was wondering if they would change the taste of the smoothies but so far I haven’t noticed any change in the taste which is awesome. Putting the various powders into the smoothies is such a great way to get these superfoods into the human body.

The samples ran out so I had to buy more of each item. I decided to do the spirulina in tablet form and I take 2 tablets each evening before dinner. She recommends theĀ Navitas Naturals brand of the superfoods. Locally I found a large selection of their products at Whole Foods. I think price-wise, the best deal is on Amazon using their “subscribe and save” option.

Here’s an overview of each of the 3 pictured items and what the package says it does for your body:

  • Maca Powder – nourishes the endocrine system. Has been used as a stress-fighting adaptogen to incrase stamina, boost libido and combat fatigue. If I remember, Linda described Maca as a leveler – basically trying to help the body get to the right levels of everything.
  • Cacao Powder – Cacao has a naturally rich supply of antioxidants and is a good source of dietary fiber. It is also known to be one of the highest dietary sources of magnesium, flavanols and polyphenols.
  • Acai Powder – has antioxidants, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. The berries also include an optimal combination of essential amino acids. Acai possesses many other micronutrients including reservatrol, polyphenols and flavonoids as well as magnesium and potassium.

I have been adding the Acai Powder to the strawberry and pineapple smoothies and the Maca powder to the peach and mango smoothies. I have tried the cacao once so far in the honeydew-cacao frosty and it tasted awesome.

I look forward to trying out more Superfoods in my smoothies in the future. If you drink smoothies – give it a try – it could help you feel awesome!

Hi Shawn – I haven’t posted the honeydew one – I will see if I can find the recipe and post it soon. Sorry about that.
