My First 5K Run/Walk!

First 5k Run - WalkAshli, one of my fitness trainers, mentioned a few weeks ago that she is working with Easter Seals on their 5k run/walk here in Austin in November. I’ve always thought it would be awesome to get involved with races at some point – so I did it! I registered for my first 5k run/walk!

I am so excited to have this goal – now the fun of training starts! I need to pick up some new sneakers and hit the pavement. Naturally I want to win the race but that might not happen this time :) Let’s make the goal “finish in a good time” for this first time out.

My entire team, Lisa/Jake/Ashli, will be working with me to get into the best shape I can to hit the pavement running, literally. Lisa even suggested that we do our sessions walking instead of in her office – rock on Lisa! A year ago I could barely walk without holding on to something and now I am signed up for a race – this should absolutely show you that you can do anything you put your mind to! And this is just the first step – eventually I want to run in the NYC marathon.

The race is on November 11, 2012 – just before my birthday. This year health is my birthday present to myself. The race will be held at the Domain in Austin, Texas.

Check out the page that Easter Seals setup for me. It has some information about Easter Seals and also an option to make a donation to Easter Seals and help me reach my fundraising goal. Definitely shoot me an email if you make a donation or if you have training tips or ideas to get ready for this milestone.

Let me know if you are interested in joining me for the walk/run – would love to see some of my locals out there! Signup for my feed to keep updated on race progress – I also need to design a shirt to wear – I am thinking either going with a “logos everywhere” theme or something with total funky bright colors – I welcome any advice!

I am SO excited for you Allen – cannot wait to see the photos from the race. Pace yourself good and stop for some water on the way. Most of all, have fun and smile a lot – it will help you push forward.

Thanks Karla and congrats to you and your HB – what was the experience like? Any info or tips to share? I am thinking one day we will have the LTF 5k and we will all run together!
