Green Smoothie!

I’ve been adding spinach to all my smoothies as of late — it’s amazing how the spinach really doesn’t change the taste of the smoothie at all. I think the key is to make sure to blend it to make the spinach disappear. I guess if you have a Vitamix or Blendtec this won’t require any extra time but in my small blender I just blend the smoothie an extra 30 seconds and poof goes the spinach.

Most of the smoothies I make use strawberries and without the spinach are a bright red color. With the spinach, they become a pretty ugly brownish-red color. I wanted to make sure that today I made a bright green smoothie.

My mixture is a modification from Linda’s Green Smoothie recipe. I used:

  • 1 banana
  • bunch of mango chunks
  • bunch of peach chunks
  • a few canteloupe chunks (definitely less than the mango/peach)
  • 4 oz OJ
  • spinach

Before adding the spinach, the smoothie was the color of canteloupe. After adding the spinach, the color became a bright green as seen below. It tastes great and you really don’t taste the spinach although spinach really doesn’t seem to have a taste anyway. I guess there is no reason not to add spinach to every smoothie!
