A Dental Year

toothThere are so many interesting things that are different in my life from last June to this June. Today I had one of those experiences that made me realize just how much has changed (and it’s important to note that I am really just at the beginning stages).

Last May I was getting ready to leave for a trip to San Francisco when a very old dental filling cracked. I had to find a dentist (I am new in town) quick because I wanted the tooth fixed before I left.

I found a dentist and headed over for the appointment. What should have taken an hour at the most took four hours. I sat in the chair without getting up for four hours. What happened was that because my breathing was in bad shape, I had to breathe through my mouth which obviously is an issue when someone is trying to work inside my mouth.

I know the dentist was very unhappy that it took so much time to do the work and I hated that it took him so much extra time.

Fast forward to today…went in to have another very old filling removed and it took half of the time the dentist thought it would. I think he was shocked at how easy it was for me to breathe and relax. At one point he tapped me and asked if I was even awake as I just sat there and breathed awesomely while he was working.

The funny thing was that the whole time he was working in my mouth all I could think about was how the crap I ate all my life affected my teeth. And how taking out this old filling was much like my new health journey – I get all the crap food out, now I get this old dental filling out – soon I will be complete in my transformation. Awesome day indeed.
