My First Johnson’s Backyard Garden CSA Box

Today I picked up my first ever CSA Box of vegetables at the Austin Farmers Market. The box is from the Johnson’s Backyard Garden which is based in Austin, Texas. The staff at the booth were very helpful and walked me through all of the items in the CSA box. Below are photos of everything I picked up — I did trade a couple of the items for more carrots. I tried fresh carrots a couple of times but figured why not give them another go around.

The Johnson’s Backyard Garden employee noted that if I store the carrots in a plastic container with a pinch of water they should last 2 weeks or more. I tried eating kale once so far and did not like it but I did take a bunch of the kale today. I just tried a leaf of the swiss chard as the staff said it tastes a lot like spinach – I would agree except it took a lot longer to chew.

The basil really smells wonderful! Frankly I have absolutely no idea how to use any of these vegetables so I will need to find some recipes.
