This past weekend was the first test of the ERS since I began my new, healthy lifestyle. ERS stands for “emotional response system” and is the system that takes over when an emotional response is needed (note: ERS is just a term I made up). I’ve been humming along lately, doing totally kick ass and really rocking the new healthy lifestyle. Heck, I am even putting superfood powders into my smoothies and working the quads, deltas and laterals!
I posted a recap of my first cooking lesson with Lisa a few days ago. I enjoyed the lesson and was excited to post the photos and the recap. Lisa asked me if she could share the post on her Facebook page. I said sure that is great. Several hours later I was on Facebook and noticed the update Lisa posted and my blood pressure raised to about 5000. She included a sentence that set the ERS off in a way that it hasn’t in a very long time. I am not going to repeat the sentence because I don’t want to see the sentence when I look at this blog. The sentence was factually inaccurate and not needed for her recap.
For the next few hours, I was at defcon 1. I couldn’t figure out whether I was mad, angry or depressed or some combination of all three. But one thing was clear, the ERS was definitely activated. I emailed Lisa and asked that she remove the sentence. Lisa apologized for including the statement and re-posted the recap without the sentence. I know Lisa didn’t mean any harm. And her post is just as good without it.
The best part was that I never once thought about eating. Not one thought about eating some junk food or some fast food. And slowly we reverted to defcon 5. The new ERS system I have in place now handled the emergency perfectly.
Yesterday I realized that it was actually a good thing that I saw the post. I need to test the system so that in the event of an actual emergency, I will be prepared to handle any situation that arises when the ERS system is activated.
