If He Can Do It…Why Can’t I?

The answer is that I can :)

(SPOILER ALERT)

Last night was the first episode of the second season of Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition with a 50-year old man named Tony. Before I talk about Tony, let’s rewind the dvr a year to the first episode last year. Her name is Rachel Oliver and she, like Tony, lost a ton of weight. You can check out her Facebook page to keep up with what Rachel is up to today. I remember watching Rachel’s transformation from my bed where the doctor ordered me to stay off my feet as much as possible. It sucked. Now hit the “live” button on the DVR – I watched half of Tony’s episode from the gym on the treadmill and the other half of his two-hour episode sitting on my couch eating an apple.

So what was so amazing about Tony’s transformation? Tony had a ton of challenges over the course of the year but at the end of the year he lost 200 pounds – he started at 400. Let me repeat that again – in ONE FREAKING YEAR HE LOST TWO HUNDRED POUNDS. That’s nearly two Miranda Kerr’s!

Tony’s challenges included:

  • his son died
  • he left his fiancee
  • he lost his job
  • he had to live in his car for a short period

With all of those issues, he still went on and on and lost the weight. His follow-up video (appears his “year” was actually two years ago) shows him working at a Chick-Fil-A which is the same place he worked before when he kept gaining the weight. I really can’t understand why he would ever want to be that close to the crap again. If he wants to be in retail – there are thousands of shops that would welcome his personality where he wasn’t near the fried food of doom all day and night.

Congrats to Tony, Rachel and all of the others who made amazing transformations with their bodies – at the end of the day, our body is all we got.
