Coralganics is Teaching Kids How To Eat Healthy and Smart

coralganicsLast night I came across 8 year old Coral and her YouTube series Coralganics. Her videos are truly awesome. Coral is trying to help other kids learn about why packaged foods aren’t always good for you even with the health claims made on the box.

She stresses that it’s key (she even raises her voice!) that you read the actual ingredients not the claims made on the front of the box. She is clearly passionate about healthy eating and nutrition.

Coral has made 3 videos so far — one for the “kids cookies” WhoNu that are filled with crap and sugar, GoGurt which says their flavor is “Bikini Berry” but Coral investigated and found out that there are NO BERRIES IN THIS YOGURT.  Reminds me of the fake blueberries some companies use in their cereals. Her third video (the one posted below) is from her trip to Chik-Fil-A and how their chicken nuggets and waffle fries are made.

In her yogurt video, Coral explains that it’s better to buy unsweetened yogurt and then add real berries to it. I like her explanation of how many ingredients are in “artificial strawberry flavoring” – it’s a whopping 49 ingredients! The most unhealthy ingredients in the yogurt are the artificial food dyes.

At the end of the Chik-Fil-A video, Coral notes, “while fast food can be convenient, fast food is rarely a healthy option. Plan ahead and take healthy snacks and drinks.” I think we have a nutritionist in the making!!

Last week I told my sister that I think the food supply that my 2-year-old niece has when she is an adult will be so different than the food supply we have today. People like Coral are going to have an impact on what kids eat as they get older. I wonder if eating salads and green smoothies will be the norm in 10 years instead of eating fast food and candy bars.

I urge you to subscribe to Coral’s YouTube page and show her videos to your kids. She also has a Facebook page where she posts her healthy recipes. I am hoping to interview Coral and her parents in the future. Here is her video about Chik-Fil-A:

What a great find. Her video set in the yogurt video is so cute. I saved her videos to share with my daughter tonight. Thanks Allen for sharing her video.
