Fear Explained from Elizabeth and Mr. Miagi

One of the things that we all deal with is fear. It’s easy not to do something because you are scared of what could happen. I’ve spoken with thousands of entrepreneurs about how hard it is to start a business and many talk about being afraid of failure. I also think many are also afraid that the business could work (sounds crazy right? it’s true). I think that there have been times I’ve been fearful of losing the weight – but not anymore.

Today I came across a video from Elizabeth Rider and in the video she said the following, “Everything you want is on the other side of fear” – very interesting statement! So much so that I whipped up a quick graphic of the phrase – feel free to copy and share as you like.

The video below is from Karate Kid III – it might be the cheesiest video you will see this year. The scene: Daniel is about to lose in the championship match and he was hit with a number of illegal karate moves. They are about to go to sudden death and Daniel is down on the ground. Mr. Miagi jumps up to the platform and Daniel tells him that he it is over and that he is afraid. Mr. Miagi replies with one of my favorite sayings ever:

“eye eye EYE – cannot must not – it’s ok to lose to opponent but must not lose to fear. Daniel your best karate still inside…now time let out”.

I think so many times we aren’t afraid of the opponent but as Mr. Miagi says, we are just afraid of the fear. And with that we end the cheese portion of this post.
